Charybdis Maelstrom

I wanted to create a place inspired by Charybdis and Scylla from Greek mythology. This place must have had towering rocky peaks reminiscent of the fangs of a giant monster.

The light from the maelstrom come from bioluminescent plancton. I've also wanted to create an epic scene using this natural bioluminescent lighting for years.

For this project I designed a ship and a submarine to really cover all the aspects of this project.

To create the vortex I tried different method like sculpting everything by hand, or also using Liquigen to have a real water vortex. Actually the result wasn't really good, so I've used Gaea to build a terrain looking like a vortex and like that it could give me the base to photoshop above it. Finally I have photobashed all the vortex and didn't use any of the 3D I made before.
